NISSAN'S DESERT NEMESIS
03.05.2012 / Gemma

Desert Nemesis follows Nissan’s ingural GT Academy winner, Lucas Ordonez, as he takes on the world’s best supercars in a thrilling street race, reminiscent of the ‘Need for Speed’ movies.

In Desert Nemesis, award-winning film director, Rob Kaplan, captured the noise and excitement generated by the muscular Juke-R via a street race against the it’s loudest and most acclaimed adversaries.

The Juke-R, is Nissan’s high-speed and outrageous concept car. A mad crossover between the standard Juke hatchback and Nissan’s GTR V6 Turbo-charged engine that produces an incredible 480bhp.

Weaving together the cinematic scenes of a high-production movie and raw footage of the gamer-turned-professional racer taking on the world’s most exciting, road-legal cars through the roads of Dubai’s exclusive International Marina Club, Kaplan gives us an opportunity to see the Juke-R find its place among the world’s elite.

To deliver the highest possible visual appeal, the film was shot using Arri Alexa: the industry’s top end 35mm format film-style digital camera system, and outputting as Pro-Res 4:4:4. Many of the lenses hired were used on the film set for Mission Impossible 4, including the 24-290 Angenieux Optimo Zoom. Mounting the Alexa to a tracking vehicle with a crane and flight head, also made it possible to achieve swooping low aerial shots at speed!

In addition to the Alexa, both Canon 5D and 7D cameras were utilised, alongside the Red MX and the Photron BC2. As highly-portable, high-speed camera, the Photron enabled the filming to be shot at full HD (2000fps), helping to capture the true majesty of the Nissan Juke-R and the supercars it was up against.

All aerial shots were filmed from British Technical Film’s radio-controlled helicopter; the Skybot MK2. This nifty piece of kit made aerial shots attainable, whilst requiring minimum preparation. To amplify these stunning visuals, and the film as a whole, sound design and music was specially composed, with the club track being generously donated by Ministry of Sound’s Patrick Hagenaar.

Irresistible Films worked with Nissan to create a lively and colourful atmosphere that leaves everyone watching breathless...don’t miss it! The Nissan’s maverick concept car, the Juke-R, is hot, exhilarating and powerful. Watch it take on the city like you have never seen before!
