The ONE Campaign teams up with international artists such as Matt Damon, Ben Affleck and Ellie Goulding to ‘play the waiting game’. The film urges viewers to sign a petition demanding global leaders to stop waiting, do more – and quickly, to fight the epidemic in West Africa and strengthen health systems so the future outbreaks can be quickly contained.
To demonstrate what waiting looks like, the video, produced by Irresistible Films with Director Mike Christie, features influential celebrities and Liberian health workers silently waiting. The two minute film stars Akon, Connie Britton, Vincent Cassel, Ellie Goulding, Morgan Freeman, John Oliver, Will Ferrell, Ice Prince, Femi Kuti, Tiesto, Bono, Per Mertesacker, Danai Gurira, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Angelique Kidjo, Thandie Newton and Liberian health workers Dr J. Soka Moses and Louise Gaye.
The film, to support the silence, also contains hard-hitting statements such as; ‘we waited too long to react;’ ‘we’re still waiting to finish the job;’ and ‘talk is cheap, its time for action.’
The video is being released alongside the ONE’s online Ebola response tracker which shows how much money countries have pledged to tackle Ebola, how much has been disbursed and how many health workers and other contributions have been sent to affected countries.
Co-founder of ONE, Bono, is also supporting the Ebola campaign by releasing a revamped version of Band Aid’s ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’ featuring young artists such as Rita Ora and Sam Smith.
